GROUP 61 Electrical Bulletin Number 61 04 93 (3879) Woodcliff Lake, NJ Oct. 143 Product Engineering SUBJECT: Console-Mounted Window Switches MODELS: 3 Series (E36), 5 Series (E34), 7 Series (E32) Situation: An extremely high percentage of console-mounted electric window switches for the above-mentioned models received by the Warranty Parts Return Center exhibit evidence of contamination by various fluids. In these cases, the reason for replacement is a malfunction that is directly attributable to such contamination. Correction: Please advise your customers that open containers of liquids (e.g., soft drinks, coffee, etc.) should never be placed in the vicinity of console-mounted switches, as the damage to the switches which may result from spillage will not be covered by warranty. Warranty Information: All console-mounted switches received by the Warranty Parts Return Center will be examined for fluid contamination. Warranty coverage for switches that have failed as a result of fluid contamination (e.g., open circuit or short circuit, or mechanical failure such as sticking) cannot be accepted.
